I'm sorry, my total is what?

I decided that today was the day that I was going to get all of my Christmas presents and recent RAKs out in the mail. I knew it was going to be a pricey little trip to the post office, but I was prepared to spend at least forty to forty-five bucks on postage.

After all, look at all those packages I needed to mail out! One package went out of country, and two went overseas. Plus, I had at least thirty Christmas cards to go out as well (I've already mailed off about twenty). Luckily, the line wasn't long at all, so I filled out the necessary customs form while I waited. Then, it was my turn. The line now was out the door! I could see everyone's faces drop as they watched me haul all those packages to the counter. The young man helping me was actually very sweet! He weighed the packages and told me the price all while I was frantically putting postage on each of the cards. After the last package was weighed, he looked at me and said, "That will be $55.27." "I'm sorry, my total is what?" I said, a little bit taken aback. He repeated the amount, and slightly stunned, I reluctantly handed him my debit card.

Now I know that for some, this amount may be but a drop in the bucket, but for a household full of critters, one of which needs to go to the vet for cancer treatment, and just one income, dropping $55 on postage is a big deal. All of my gifts are handmade this year, so I saved on purchasing expensive department store items. I suppose I should be grateful postage wasn't more!

Please tell me I'm not alone! What is the most you've ever spent in postage?

ouch...i would have been taken aback by the total also...but luckily my husband does my post office stuff for me. He works evenings so he runs errands on his way to work for me. Got to love that! The most I've spent on postage was around $30 but that was one single box.

I don't know the actual number, but I do spend a LOT on postage! especially when shipping stuff out of country, like to my dh's uncle in Japan!

My silly DH had his sister's name for Christmas last year and sent her present at the last possible minute. Well, since she lives in Hawaii (about 15 miles from Joscie, rhymes with bossy) it cost $45.00!!! For one package!!! It was almost as much as the gift!!

Hope that makes you feel better? Which one of your little ones has to go for cancer treatments??? Devo and Rillah send their love to whomever it is!!!

I'm making the dreaded trip tomorrow. Praying fervently that it won't be too much. I do have to send the RAK I offered off to Australia, yikes...what was I thinking this time of year. Luckily it's envelope sized. Take care missy and I hope all your fur kids have a happy holiday too.

Yikes! That would be ouch too. ;( I'm sorry to hear that one of your critters has to go in for cancer treatment. I hope s/he has a quick recovery. Lexi sends her best thoughts, furry hugs & schnauzer tickles.

Thank you for being so generous with your RAKs.

When my husband was over in Afghanistan, I only sent him packages in the two set price priority mail boxes. They were $8 a piece (I think). I know, it's so expensive to send anything anymore. Oh well, at least you got your stuff on the way and out of your house!
Take care, Julie

One year my brother abruptly moved his family away about two weeks before Christmas. We had already gotten many, many presents for his three little boys (3yo,2yo and 8 mos)so my mom decided to ship them across the country to them. It was over $450, including about $25 to ship those platic sleds you can buy for five bucks.

Oh, the price of being generous! I tried to be frugal this week and sent a package to Joscie parcel post to Hawaii and they said it would be 3 to 5 weeks! Postage is definitely high.

Well, I've never gone over 100 bucks like some of these ladies have, but I did drop $65 to send a box with about 59 issues of CK in it. That box was SO, SO HEAVY!

OMG! That is quite a chunk of change!
At halloween, my swap partner sent me about 10 sheets of patterened paper. It cost her 20.00 to mail it to me. I told her if it would have been me, I would have kept the paper for myself! LOL!
It is ridiculous what postage costs!
